The Penn State Alumni AssociationWhat’s been happening: After graduating from Penn State, I prepared myself for the Christian ministry. I attended a Presbyterian seminary and then enrolled at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Chicago where I earned a Master's Degree in New Testament and a Doctor's Degree in Theology. I also earned another Master's Degree in Religious Education at Syracuse University while serving two churches in Binghamton and Vestal, New York. A major project, while serving a growing church in Vestal, New York, was building a functional Christian Education Building, which received architectural awards for its excellence. After leaving New York State, I served two long American Baptist pastorates; one in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and the other at University Baptist Church in East Lansing, Michigan. The University Baptist Church was adjacent to the Michigan State University campus and is the largest resident university in the world. For sixteen years we ministered and met students from all over the world. It was exciting! I lost my wife, Esther, to cancer during my pastorate at University Baptist Church and six years later married Bonnie Anderson. Since leaving the University Church in 1992, I have served eight churches in Michigan and Ohio as Interim Pastor. This too proved to be a worthwhile and exciting adventure. Currently (2009) I am attending and serving as Minister of Congregational Care at First Baptist Church of Lansing, Michigan (now called Christ Community Church). I am involved in visitation, weddings, funerals, counseling, teaching and preaching. All of my three children are serving the Lord. Dr. Jonathan Schulteis is a vegetable specialist and faculty member at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Joanna Comick sings solos and is in the choir at Ashland Church in Oregon, Ohio and Joy Schultheis serves with Athletes in Action endeavoring to win college athletes to the Lord Jesus Christ. My fondest memories at Penn State were arranging Friday meetings of Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship and their retreats. Also, it was giving speeches at many fraternity and sorority houses regarding special Christian presenters coming to campus. |
